Welcome
Welcome. I am an author, researcher, technology specialist, and health-related community organizer living in San Francisco.
This site includes a number of my publications and writing, information about my past work, archival materials documenting the U.S. gay men's health movement, and content about current interests such as ethical conduct in research practice, the study of social networks, applications of emerging technology to existing research methodologies, and the increasingly significant role of digital rights and electronic freedom in everyday life.
Much of my work involves bridging the mutual influence of intersections between:
- society, community, and culture
- science, research, and technology
particularly as it relates to policy, health and human rights.
My academic background is interdisciplinary, primarily grrounded in the fields of medical sociology and comparative studies of science and technology, an area of study that seeks to situate the role of science within a broad social, historical, and philosophical context. While it can sometimes constitute a critical analysis of science, it also holds out the possibility of broader public participation in science policy issues, and the promise of greater community-based participatory research agendas.
As usual, the site is a work in progress. I hope you'll visit again soon.
